MOST BIZARRE MOMENT
Mike Gundy's rant. The Oklahoma State coach reached Bob Knight levels of bullying and posturing when he defended former starting quarterback Bobby Reid following a critical newspaper column. And the rant came after a big win, over Texas Tech. Reid will go down as a footnote after throwing only 49 passes this year, but Gundy's sound bites will be replayed for years to come, most notably the assertion: "Come after me! I'm a man! I'm 40." Or maybe the coda: "Makes me wanna puke."

I didn't see it as "Bizarre", I thought it was well put. The media sucks period they're all about themselves and nothing without the sport. You couldn't tell them that...

Not to defend the media, especially since I haven't read the aforementioned critique of Bobby Reid, but...if the Mike Gundy rant is who/what I think it is...I think he has it wrong -- he's not the one who is a man, he's the one who needs to grow up. Even if his anger was justifiable, we all know the old saying: "Two wrongs don't make a right." As a coach he's a role model to his players and that outburst sends the message that undisciplined verbal aggression is acceptable.

As a mother of a 13-yr-old son very active in sports, I encounter way too much out-of-control negative emotion at events and it bothers me. If that my son's coach, I'd feel compelled to talk to him privately and explain that his coach wasn't being the coach he was supposed to be. And what kind of conversation is that to have with a kid? "The man you respect and admire, the man you're supposed to follow as a worthy leader, is not worthy."

Perhaps Gundy could have handled this situation in a more civil manner, but I have no problem with his righteous indignation about the article! Which IMO is based on nothing more then lies reporters need to report the FACTS not what they think they hear, or have heard 4th and 5th hand. Plus, Bobby Reid is a fine young man. To Coach Gundy, Thank you for taking up for one of your student athletes!

Mike Gundy is an emotional, emotional man. And he is 40.

I don't think taking up for one of your players, one of your kids is wrong in any way or fashion.

Gosh, what a year of sound-bytes. "I'm a man" by Gundy..."I'm the head coach" with Miles. Heck, Saban's "don't stutter" ranks right up there will both of those two.

But, back to Gundy...what's left out of all of these articles is the lady who wrote it has been taking "journalistic liberties" with her article for over a decade now.

If her employer is willing to keep her for 10 years and her state buys those papers, perhaps she is not taking too many "journalistic liberties". Our hatred for the media should not excuse his childish behavior. He was not attacking the media. He was attacking her. If anyone thinks that was a demonstration of manhood, well...

Flat out lies about a player and that isn't journalistic liberty?

Heck, when we had our game with OU several years ago she flat out lied about Stallings when all she had to do was a little searching on the 'net, or even picking up the phone to verify what she had written.

IF you ask OU fans what their opinion is of her you'll find a lot of them can't stand a thing she does.

I spent some time at OU's practices several years ago and her practice reports were filled with her personal observations. The problem was, she wasn't even at the practices. I recall one article where she was talking about what a dismal showing one of their QB's had that day when he was as on target as a coach could dream.

While she's not the only writer out there that has huge issues with integrity, she ranks right up there.

Well said TP, she's a isn't much of a writer in my book. I'd bet she would be great at MAD magazine! Black vs White!!!

Jerry Springer has been on the tele going on 17 years. His employer has been willing to keep him on TV and people continue watching, but is his show not any less trashy? Just because people watch/read doesn't mean it's not trashy television/journalism. That argument has no validity.

Maybe he should have taken a better approach and "babied it down" for some people (not me, I can handle a little raising of the voice and a little calling people out when they report LIES), but if I had a son playing college athletics, Mike Gundy is the guy I want my son playing for.
