| FTBL Scott Cochran is no longer on the staff at Georgia, a source confirmed to @247sports .

I remember @TerryP talking about the being vested in the retirement system here at Bama was a big deal for him and his wife. I could see him coming back and being on staff. He has 14 years in the Alabama school system. Nobody could hype and create an Alpha mindset like SC. I would love to have him on staff.

I get the fact that he would want to coach a position group, but he is 44 and that is awfully late to the game. Better take the strength role and bank roll your money. Retire early and enjoy life on the lake.

There are no S&C roles available at Alabama. Bringing somebody on so they can get their years in isn’t a good hiring plan.

I don't disagree, but no one can hype like Cochran and it wouldn't be the first time space has been made to bring in a coach. Having him in the summer conditioning and cheerleading for the players is a good thing IMO.

Space would be made available by creating an analyst role ($30k salary and no on-field coaching). Cochran isn’t coming from a role that pays him for the life of the contract offset by pay in his new role. Is $30k enough for his family? Do you think that Ballou isn’t getting the job done?

I'm more inclined to think he'll pop up somewhere in Louisiana. I'm hesitant to even think it might be a D1 school. A McNeese State type place. 🤷‍♂️

FWIW, even in a hypothetical situation, I can't see Cochran and DeBoer style's matching: much less Cochran with Ballou.

I could see him working with Jimbo if he gets another job.

@OldPlayer I think Ballou is doing a fine job. It is the persona of Cochran and the building up of the guys to give them the edge/swagger that had been missing in recent years,
During Cochran’s time at UGA did you ever see him demonstrate that same persona? I like the guy but what he brings isn’t what Alabama needs right now.

That is kind of difficult to answer. I don't follow UGA closely, but there has been a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth the past few years because it appeared that UGA had supplanted Bama as the team to beat in the SEC. Even though Bama won the MNC in 2020, there was talk about loss of swagger and missing the "it" factor and not being as confident and missing some Alpha's in the group. From the outside looking in that Cochran helped stimulate and drive that amongst our guys.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the guy. The dude was instrumental in getting Saban's dynasty off the ground. But like someone else said in this thread, I feel like the times have passed him by. Who knows, maybe he's evolved since then. But didn't I hear a rumor that he had a substance abuse problem????

I don't have soft spot for him. He did his job. Next man up. He'll be fine whatever he does next.
