| FTBL Regarding Applewhite

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, and based on some of the recent coach search fiascos my faith in some of these "news" sites has been shaken,....but, according to atleast one premium site Applewhite is expected to officially accept the position on Wednesday or Thursday. UT will have to wait the required 5-day minimum before officially hiring Major and will make the official announcement.

Let the games begin. ^^POP

Chop,
Do you think Applewhite & Pentry might have clashed a bit during the season & that made Major think about taking another job?

I don't have any inside knowledge but you never know. Major's and Pendry's philosophies are light years apart. There could have been some tension but I'm not privy to any inside info and not saying that there definately was.

For all I know Major just loves Texas.

I wouldn’t put too much stock into any of the rumors you are going to see floating around. To me, that explanation just seems too easy. Last year when Applewhite was hired and people starting talking about he and Pendry being co-OC, a lot of people said it wouldn’t work because of their difference in philosophy. Now he leaves and everyone is trying to say that was the problem, but I just don’t really buy it. I think Saban could have seen potential problems as well as any of us and I’m sure he would have ironed those things out before hiring Applewhite. I think it’s more a case of Applewhite really liking his former OC, Greg Davis, and wanting to coach with him again.

The real question is: Will we make a counter-offer? It looks to me that we aren't backing him up as strong as we should. I would hate to have another new offense, no matter who the OC will be.

Why would we counter? He is unproven at the OC position in the big leauges as of now and is taking a step down, maybe he thinks he is in over his head right now.

I don't know about you but I don't have many former bosses/coaches that I would take a pay cut to work with again. (Yes, I am assuming UA OC pays more than a UT RB coach)

IMO I think Applewhite is upset that he doesn't have full control of the offense. Plus put yourself in his shoes. If you were coaching at some other university and Alabama offered you a job would you not want to go back to the college where your heart is?

I don't blame Applewhite for leaving. I'd leave Texas for Alabama any day, even if it meant taking a small pay cut. Also, the writing is on the wall for Major to move further up the ladder in Austin. In 10 years, we might be calling him Head Coach Applewhite.

I would love to see CMA have the oppurtunity to HC later on in the years. But I haven't followed the updates, but wasn't it implied that Muschamp might be next in line in Texas and thats why he took the job?
