🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 Public phone calls on speaker / Bluetooth ear buds. I'm curious. So, a question.

It's a question I saw someone else pose.

When you've randomly crossed paths with someone you don't know in life having a conversation have you ever thought, "that sounds important?" Or, have you found one even slightly interesting?

When I worked at Home Depot, people (customers) would be on calls on speaker all the damn time. It was annoying as hell. And they all seemed to be at max volume...like they all had a hearing problem. They were literally holding the phone up to their face while talking on it. What was so damn difficult about using it normally so everyone else couldn't hear the entire conversation.

There was one time someone was doing that, and something funny was said. A coworker and I heard it all and we both laughed. The person in the store stopped, looked at us, and said something like "Are y'all listening to my private conversation?" To which I said, "Yes...and so is everyone else. Maybe take it off speaker so we don't have to." They didn't like that. And I didn't care.

Using the speaker is for when you're driving or your hands are busy doing something else in a private setting. Earbuds are for when your hands are busy doing something else and you can't hold the phone and you're in a public setting. But if you can hold the phone, then it needs to be on normal so everybody else can't hear your "private" conversation.

Find them annoying. I try to tune everyone else out when I'm in public, some make it difficult with their phones in speaker mode and both people must be near deaf. I don't even like to have conversations on my phone, sure don't wanna hear anyone else's.

I've seen some old folks have it blasting, and I just chalk that up to an unawareness of options.

In many cases, it's just a "look at me" tactic.

Another thing. Personal speakers hanging from your neck, blaring your music. I'm heading down from summiting Ben Nevis last fall, and this thumping bass meets me on the trail. Tone deaf didn't even begin to describe the looks he got. The guy and his group were not dressed for the weather up top, so not sure they made it up. I guess it's the modern equivalent of the boombox on the shoulder.

So far, nothing important. @sean brings up something.

One place I'll take my phone every time is a store like HD. And, it is a little 'exempt' here. It's depends on the department; then the aisle.

Those tend to be one minute conversations though. "How many did you say we needed?"

That's shit we write (spell check changed that to right) down, how many and all.

Wild memory.

When we had the Pub a guy with a propane tank pulled in the parking lot hoping to grab lunch. Weird parking lot, remember? He ended up backing the truck into the ditch.

That was a phone call I listened to..."err, boss." I would call it important. LOL.

This image is WILD! Years ago...before we added the built in seating and decking. This Google maps pass...geez.

I worked many a morning at those tables. It did catch the truck. You can literally see where the Pub ends and the Tatoo shop starts.
