Leading Off​

  • Alabama and Southern Miss will square off for the 107th time in series history when the two teams meet on Wednesday evening at Pete Taylor Park. The Crimson Tide holds the all-time series advantage, 74-32, including a 26-17 mark in Hattiesburg.
  • The two teams met last season in Tuscaloosa on March 23. Southern Miss came away with a 5-4 win in that contest. The last matchup in Hattiesburg came on March 15, 2016, with the Golden Eagles claiming a 9-2 victory.
  • Alabama will send freshman right-hander Ben Hess to the mound on Wednesday. Hess will be making his second start in as many appearances during his rookie campaign.
  • Southern Miss will call on lefty Drew Boyd in the midweek. The junior is making his first start of the season and fourth appearance overall.

About Alabama​

  • Alabama finished last week 3-1 overall. The Crimson Tide fell to North Alabama on Wednesday before sweeping Binghamton across a three-game series over the weekend.
  • The Crimson Tide bats led the way last week, combining for a .331 (48-145) average that included 12 doubles, a triple and eight homers. The Tide also drew 15 walks and was hit by eight pitches while stealing five bags in as many chances.
  • Alabama's offense was led by Tommy Seidl and Zane Denton. Seidl batted a team-high .556 (10-18) with four doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored while drawing a walk and stealing two bases. Denton was close behind, posting a .533 (8-15) average with a double, three home runs, eight RBI, six runs and five walks. The junior posted an impressive .533/.650/1.200 slash line for the week and led the Tide in both on-base and slugging percentage.
  • The Tide suffered a 9-5 loss to North Alabama on Wednesday. UNA got out front early with two runs in the first and three in the second. The Lions added one apiece in the third and fifth with a two-run seventh on the way to the win. Alabama chipped away at the lead with solo home runs in the second, third and fifth innings while adding two runs in the ninth as part of a late rally but could get no closer than a 9-5 final.
  • Alabama's solo home runs came from Denton, Owen Diodati and Jim Jarvis. Diodati finished his day with a team-high tying three hits while adding a run and two RBI. Matching Diodati in hits was Seidl who went 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored.
  • Another dominant pitching performance and steady offense helped UA cruise to a 9-3 win over Binghamton on Friday.
  • Garrett McMillan provided the Tide with another impressive start for his second win of the season. The junior tossed a career-high 7.0 innings of one-run baseball, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in the process. McMillan did not issue a walk and retired the final 11 batters he faced.
  • UA's offense was equally impressive on Friday, scoring in five of the eight innings including the final four to secure the win. The Tide bats collected 13 hits with seven of the nine Alabama starters recording at least one hit in the game.
  • Seidl led the offensive charge with a 3-for-4 showing that included a double, two runs and a team-high four RBI. Also contributing multi-hit efforts were Denton, Eric Foggo and Andrew Pinckney, with the threesome each posting two-hit days. Denton highlighted the group with a double and a home run to go with three RBI, one run and a walk.
  • Alabama's offense erupted for a season-high 14 runs in a 14-2 win over Binghamton on Saturday.
  • The Tide posted 14 runs on 14 hits to go with five walks and five hit-by-pitch as all nine starters reached base safely. Eight of the nine starters contributed at least one hit while seven of the nine starters recorded an RBI and seven starters also added at least one run scored.
  • Alabama's 3-4-5 hitters in Seidl, Denton and Drew Williamson were key in the win. The trio contributed seven hits, including a double and one home run, to go with eight RBI and seven runs scored. Antoine Jean picked up the win with a career-high tying 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
  • The Tide clinched the three-game sweep of Binghamton with a 5-3 win in Sunday's series finale. Alabama got out front early with three runs in the first and added two more in the sixth. Binghamton chipped away at the Tide lead with single tallies in the second and third frames to go with a late run in the seventh but could get no closer.
  • Denton and Dominic Tamez each posted a multi-hit effort. Denton homered as part of a 2-for-2 showing that included a team-high two RBI to go with one run and a pair of walks. Tamez led UA in hits with three, including a double, to go with one run scored.
  • Jacob McNairy picked up the win with 2.2 innings of relief. The senior allowed one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts. He was followed by Dylan Ray, who picked up his second save thanks to 2.1 scoreless, hitless innings that featured five strikeouts. The duo combined with starter Grayson Hitt, who punched out seven, to post a season-high 15 strikeouts. That total was the most in a single game by Tide pitchers since 2020.
