🌎 OK...I'm tired of the rain

Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, rain...etc.

Every day for the past 10 days or so. And it's supposed to continue through Tuesday. I haven't cut grass in 2 weeks. At this rate, I'm going to need a damn bush hog to cut it.

Earlier today, I was actually going to get out and start cutting just after lunch. The grass was still a little bit wet from the previous day's rain, but I was OK with it. By the time I got finished eating, it had rained again. Then it stopped for a couple hours. Now it's raining again, and quite hard (along with some lightning/thunder).

I gotta tell ya, I'm 'bout tired of all this damn rain. The ONLY good thing from it is I haven't had to water the flowers in a while. So it's saving on my water bill. But it's enough now that I just want a couple days of no rain.

I'm leaving Saturday, was supposed to go fishing with a buddy of mine about the time this all started. Weather will be better after Saturday. 😁

Dry, dry, dry, dry, dry, dry, dry...etc.

Two weeks ago I was looking around and noticed the color was doing great (Iron application with some N) and I wasn't getting a lot of growth. So, I didn't mow...checked, didn't again. Checked, didn't again.

Then a shower ... surgery ... and it's grown at 3" or more inches in a week. In some areas, more (different grass type.) I was out front an hour ago and the streets are still wet: turf will be. But...now I can't mow.

In "turf" area I have about 2500 SQ ft of lawn I have to mow in the front (and seriously considering adding about 500 SQ ft to my landscaping beds to make that even smaller.) A couple of years ago I ended up paying a guy $40 to cut the front (and I'm still cussing myself about that today.) Ain't no damn way I'm paying that again. I'll let it grow and fight in a few weeks.

Yeah. I know $40 isn't anything. But...I so want to say "it's the principle of the thing..." knowing all the time I am just cheap and don't want to spend the cash.

At this rate, I'm going to need a damn bush hog to cut it.
And this is why you never "go cheap" on a mower. I told my doc; it's not mowing, that's the easy part. It's turning, getting the mower out...I'm at more risk to tear things up then than letting the mower do its job.

I'm sure you've seen videos of remote controlled mowers. I saw another the last few days with a tractor and "hay baler." So, after the remote mower, the remote "grass clippings baler." Literally, rolled 'em up and wrapped 'em.

It's starting to get REAL tempting ...

We have had over 7.5 inches in the last week and a half. Hopefully, this afternoon, I will get to to raise the John Deere deck to its highest level and mow. I still have a place about 10-12 feet deep and 125 feet long, on a hill behind the house that has not been touched this year. 47 hedges need cut and the shrub bed needs cleaned out. I will get to it when I can can in the upcoming days.

Even with a good commercial mower there are times it's just too much. My old yard needed mowing every 5 days. If it rained like it has lately, over 10 inches here, and I couldn't cut it for over 10 days I'd have to cut it at least twice. Some times a finish mower would come in handy but it's usually when it's so wet the lawn couldn't support a tractor. I hated getting behind on mowing or hoeing the garden, hard to catch up.

Like letting the mower do the work, I've no issues cutting twice versus busting my ass once.

IMO, sounds like the solution could be deer. 🙃

Better off getting a steer.i tried but my wife didn't want cow patties in the front yard, not that she ever went out there or anything but 🤷‍♂️
I can't help myself. I had to make a stupid comment regarding deer. It'll happen again. Trust me.

After your mention of five acres yesterday I almost said, "goats." A friend of mine moved out of the city to just outside of St. Stephens: it's country; Country. Her and her son have several acres where they've built. I told her unless I'm spending the money on a nice piece of machinery for maintainence, I'm buying goats.

I got a picture sent to me a few weeks ago...she has four now. I KNOW she's thinking "house pet." That, I don't get ...

Goats are too hard to get to live imo, real susceptible to worms. I like eating goat but rest of the family don't feel the same. We had sheep and a steer most of the time we were in Tennessee, most of them weren't bad to deal with. I had a few sheep that were crazy but they made a quick trip to the sale barn. Had to feed the steer twice a day but the sheep were pretty self sufficient.

The experiences we've shared here are ... I've watched someone else's steer eat grass.

I have NO clue when it comes to goats, or sheep. It was a smart ass comment that ended up being taken literally.

That said, I've seen her catch everything from a squirrel to what we call "glass lizards" around here ... sorta tend to think she could handle goats. We'll see. We're talking about a few of us heading out there for a night.
