I heard a discussion on the radio yesterday about this subject and I'd like to get everyone's opinion. Winning the National Championship is a very difficult task. You have to have a good team, that is obvious, you have to catch a break or two during the season, you have to remain injury free to key players and now I would say you probably need a very good QB instead of the game manager. With that being said, Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Mack Brown, Jimbo Fisher, Les Miles and Ed Oregeron have all won the big game. Who in your opinion is the next D1 coach to win his first NC?

Kirby Smart at Georgia is recruiting well, and has some of Saban's knowledge. I'd say he is probably the most likely candidate in my opinion. Ryan Day at Ohio State has the talent and could break through, but it seems to me that the Big 10 is a ways from being at the SEC and Clemson level. However, I personally do not like the SOB (Kirby Smart) unless he is our DC.

Smart at UGA, Mullen at Florida, Day at Ohio State, Cristobal at Oregon, Riley at Oklahoma, and Franklin at Penn State are the easy group to look at since they are incumbent HC with teams that were either in the playoffs or close last year (or I think should be closer next year thinking of Mullen). I think Day is probably in a better position with his starting QB coming back (as well as their #1 receiver and #2 rusher) although I am not sure his defense will be ready. Cristobal seems like the most likely to me aside from Day. He was so close to getting there this year (2 losses by just a few points including that opener to Auburn) and will have them ready next year.

As much as I hate to, I do agree with you about Day. Cristobal has to actually get in the playoffs, something the PAC successfully avoids every year.

L. Riley has been in the playoffs 4 years with OU and personally, his timetable may be running out. You only get so many opportunities to get to the big show.

Franklin has yet to win the Big 10 and right now that championship goes through Columbus, Ohio.

Day is a solid choice and hard to argue against that pick. Personally, I hope they never win it again.

Kirby has made some Les Miles coaching decisions so....

Mullen is doing a very good job at UF and has the player pool in Florida to make that next jump.

Cristobal would have been in this year if they had beaten AU. Year 3 in Eugene may be the year.

O ....i will go with Jimbo....at AnM....
While it would surprise me.... as Coach O surprised me...
But whoever comes up with the next "QB of the century....."....
Thatā€™s who will do it...
Right now...Ohio State has a great one.... kirby at Uga and Mullen at FLORIDA...do not...Riley at OK cant with that shit D they play...
