| BSB/SB šŸ„Ž Late Rally Falls Short as Alabama Falls in Midweek Road Game at Western Kentucky, 3-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. ā€“ Alabama Softball brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh but the late rally ultimately fell short as Western Kentucky held on for the 3-1 win.

Alabama (39-9) faced an early deficit after a three-run first inning from Western Kentucky (31-9) and was hitless until the top of the fourth. The Crimson Tide had its chances over the latter half of the game, scratching across one run but leaving nine on base. Jaala Torrence (6-2) took the loss in the start while Montana Fouts allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out six in relief.

After a single and sac bunt to start the bottom of the first for WKU, Taylor Sanders roped a double to center field to drive in the first run of the game for the Hilltoppers. With two out and runners at the corners, Bailey Curry bounced another double off the wall in center to drive in two and make it 3-0 before Alabama made the early pitching change. Montana Fouts struck out the final batter to end the inning facing the early three-run deficit.

Alabama was hitless until the top of the fourth, putting two on base courtesy of singles from Ally Shipman and Kaylee Tow but the Tide could not scratch a run across in the frame. With two out in the top of the fifth, a Savannah Woodard single and Ashley Prange double put two in scoring position but a groundout stranded them as WKU got out of another jam and remained in front, 3-0.

The Tide loaded the bases with two out in the top of the sixth but a forceout kept Alabama out of the run column again. The Hilltoppers were unable to add to their 3-0 lead in the sixth and a single and an error put the first two baserunners on for the Tide in the top of the seventh. An RBI groundout erased the shutout before a pair of fly balls ended the rally and the game.
