| FTBL Interesting switches today. Huber with the linebacker...

Motley, was out with his broken finger, but was watching the OL drill today.

Watkins may be making a move up the depth chart...considering we don't have one  it's hard to say.

Thats what i call looking for a winning combination and putting the best personal in position to help you the most. Coach Bryant did this all the time looks like Saban does too.

Agreed. Most of Saban's moves when he was at LSU were offensive guys to defense. So, seeing them try Huber at LB isn't a shock.

What struck me is the reports of Motley watching the offensive line. I don't know if anything will come of it, but it sure intrigues me.

According to the reports I've read, Saban says that Motley was just working with the OL because he could do more offensively with his broke finger than he could with the defense.

-- EXPERIMENT, NOT CHANGE: Alabama fullback Baron Huber practiced at linebacker Wednesday and defensive lineman Brian Motley was back with the offensive line.

Saban, however, insisted that the moves were experimental and not final.

"We're not moving him to linebacker," Saban said of Huber. "We're just seeing if he can play it, if we need for him to play it -- whether he could or he couldn't."

A broken finger on Motley's left hand played a role in his switch, Saban said.

"It's because he can do more of that than he can do of something else," Saban said. "That does not mean we moved him to center."

Experiment not change

But not as athletic in my opinion.

Johns' biggest issue with LB is going to be learning the assignments and being in position, not the physical part. Huber's biggest issue would be getting off blocks and learning technique and pursuit angles, but not necessarily the assignments.

Saban addressed it in the press conference yesterday. Check out Porter's thread.

I see saban has trained you well.

As for Huber, that conserns me just a little. I know it's spring and all, but somehow I don't think Huber is being tried there because he's a natural at LB. Makes me worry even more about depth.

I look at it along the same lines, but you also have to take into account the depth we have at the TE position and how McElwain uses TE and FB's in the same roles.

If there is one thing we all know it's the fact we are going to see a rotation next year of 8-9 players with our LB'ers. Put those numbers together in your head and you see a lot of freshman seeing playing time.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that aspect yet.

That makes my head spin!
