šŸŒŽ I'm losing count of the assassination attempts at this point...

He was a floor away from the President……thats the key here bud he was a FLOOR away. Should he be charged with a crime? Yes most definitely, but this silly he tried killing the President is ridiculous
What was the guy doing there? He wasn't a member of the White House press. He had a purpose. He ran through security in order to get near the President with the intent to kill him. Granted, his efforts were thwarted and he didn't get far, but he did make an attempt to shoot the President, and others. He doesn't have to pull the trigger to make an attempt. He doesn't have to be on the same floor to make an attempt.

Here's a map of the area.

As the article notes, he was at the stairs heading down directly into the ballroom. Down those steps, he's in a open span room (no columns or pillars) with a direct line of sight of the stage just over 100 feet away. His proximity to the President was very close in regard to assassination attempts.

The guy who was convicted of attempted assassination for being on the perimeter of Trump National was roughly 400 yards from Trump, never fired a shot. Convicted of attempted assassination, sentenced to life in prison. The Pennsylvania shooter was about 130 yards from Trump.

Stupid guys from Tennessee mouthed off about their racial hatred of Obama, had weapons and were arrested. One (Cowart) noted his ongoing plot to kill Obama, in the formative stages and with a remote chance of success. Pled guilty, served 14 years. Could've gotten 75 years, but the sentencing was, in part, based on the lack of dangerous proximity in the attempt.

It's clear you're wrapped around the axle because this is Trump. Take out the personalities, and you'd conclude it was an attempt, instead of arguing that water isn't wet.

So, if you say on here that you want to beat the shit out of me that means you should be charged and convicted of attempted assault? Attempted murder? Attempted aggravated assault because you wrote it? If you are in Denver and I am in Denver at the same hotel, but you are on the third floor and I am on the sixth floor AFTER you wrote that you wanted to cause me harm that you should be charged with attempted any of the above things?
If I posted on FB that I was coming to kill you because I thought you were having an affair with my wife and I showed up at your hotel with a shotgun how close would you want me to get to you before someone stopped me? I had stated my intent and shown an effort to carry that out. Do I have to pull the trigger before it's attempted murder? I attempted and failed but carried out a substantial step towards accomplishing it. If I only posted on here that I was going to kick your ass but took no further action that's just a threat, no attempt was made to do anything other that run my mouth through a website.

This is quite the hypothetical to create as a comparison.

If I did all the above and showed up at your hotel and shot someone on my way to you? Yeah, I'm guessing we'd see attempted murder charges.

In this case he's already broken federal law with the threat. I see that magnified by him trying to carry out his intent.

But make no mistake here. By Federal law and statute one of the crimes he's being charged with is an assasination attempt. No shot at POTUS has to be fired to violate the law.
