| FTBL I'm continuing to see this narrative about how much Jalen has improved as a passer at OU. I'm still not buying.

It's not a lot different from last year when we were discussing the Heisman race. I held nothing against Kyler but I have to admit I was disappointed we didn't see more people talk about how wide open his receivers were when they were lauding his passing accuracy. Sometimes it's just that hard to miss a guy especially when he's wide open.

We saw Jalen's progressions/reads improve dramatically last year. That's nothing new to those who followed him. But, again, lauded this season as if it's something new. He's having a hell of a year and I'm glad for him ... but is it too much to think we'd get someone pointing out how ridiculously open his guys are?

And, as you can see, this is a pass we've seen him complete routinely since he's been here.

You'll see what I'm referring to in the following video clip. But before that ... just glance at the capture. He's not covered underneath and we're looking at at least a seven yard cushion over the top in this picture.

I've watched three of his games and I haven't seen significant improvement. OU has played some really bad teams with zero defense.

Jalen was a unique talent during his time at Alabama. He's a good athlete. But, he still pulls the ball down and runs too quickly. When he runs, his athletic talent allows him to pick up yards. When he does throw, his receivers are wide open. I believe he has improved, but I wouldn't put him in the "great" category yet.

but, but, but, Ted said it was a "tight window" that he had to fit it into!!!!

I personally think it's all system, and that he hasn't really improved at all. That one play showed that all 3 receivers had at least a 7 yard window around them. Look at Sam Bradford, Kyler Murray, and Baker Mayfield, none of them have really done much in the NFL after having such amazing careers at Oklahoma. Of course Sam has been hurt most of his career.

Why does it become obvious why he went to big 12 school...
And #1 big 12 school..... has bama like talent....and Cusa defenses to face...
There will come time later when Tua wins or loses HT.... JH wont face lsu, uga, msu , au type defenses... and #s....don’t know if JH is playing in 4th quarters or not...
But Tua isnt....
Last year at this time...tua had it wrapped up...
Long way to go.....

Without a doubt he's improved over the years. No idea what time frame many of you are comparing him to when you make the comments "he hasn't really improved at all" or "He hasn't improved much".

Statistically he's improved this year vs last year. He's improved this year vs 2 years ago or this year vs 3 years ago.

Dare I say there are a few passes in here he wasn't making consistently while at Alabama. Easy for me to see.

A pretty good listen here with Pollack ... and, I'll point out, he is one of the first I've heard to mention "he's not throwing through tight windows, he's throwing to guys who are wide open."

On an ironic note ... I think it was Keven Negandhi as the "host" that mentioned how many yards Jalen has had in the third quarter and then Riley decides he's going to run Jalen in the fourth. The fourth ... seems like that was a subject of conversation here with Skyler vs Tua last year. 🤷‍♂️

Stats don't tell the whole story. He has wide open receivers in a no-defense conference or against inferior competition. I'm happy he's having success, but he's not the next Peyton Manning.

No doubt. But the video I posted shows several passes he wasn't making at Alabama. Are his improvements due to him simply getting older/more experience or being at Oklahoma...dunno, don't care.

I'm not in the he hasn't improved camp.

You're right, Jalen isn't the type of person who would sexually assault a personal trainer in the locker room. #amirite

Well, as a Bama fan we all want to see him do great!! But as some of us not being an Oklahoma fan we would like just behind our hearts to see him mess up just a little bit!

@planomateo

Of course, a lot of Tua is hitting a receiver at 10 yards and receiver making it a long TD.... bunch of his numbers have been RACs...
Careful now. Here's something that will make you call me an accountant again.

Yards per attempt is one of my favorite statistics and the basis for any passing games measurement. It's taking in to account the distance the ball is in the air versus yards after the catch. There's a net YPA, and an Adjusted NYA.

Here's what it reveals. There are three guys in the top five you'll recognize; Tua, Jalen, and Burrow. Tua is 11.6, Jalen is 15.2. As @OldPlayer suggests in your quote, stats don't tell the whole story. All three guys are in different offenses and putting up similar numbers.

The distinction lies in the first video and it's not anything knew. IF anything, it's the reason the change at quarterback was made—a pass placed in front of a slant route, in front of the receiver, and in stride.
