The Mtn. – MountainWest Sports Network –

It's supposed to be available nation wide. Some of you may already have it and don't know it. The network replays Mountain West Conference football games all the time. You can catch some of our games between now and Jan 2nd if you are interested.

Here's the link to Direct TV, scroll to the bottom and you will see "The Mtn.".

I have both Direct TV and Dish Network...Dish at my house, and Direct at my parsonage. They both have their strengths, but all in all I have to give the nod to Dish. Their programming packages are better - as is their customer service. I dropped DTV previously because our 4 year old hardware was crapping out and they did not want to replace it. 2 months after I disconnected and went to Dish, they sent me an offer for a free 4 room system. If they would have done that the first time, I wouldn't have dropped them.

I reconnected at the parsonage after doing a do it yourself install of the old hardware at a new location. It confused the heck out of them that I wanted to activate my service with no contract. The fact that I owned my own hardware seemed foreign. It took them almost 2 hours on the phone to activate the system. It took me less time to install it, including digging a hole and mounting it on a post!

We are probably going to move to the parsonage full time in the summer, so I will disconnect the DTV and get Dish to move their system. I may try to get a new DVR though, I am not real happy with the pixel noise and digital glitches I get on the one we have now.

I've had DirecTv for years and have been very happy with them. Much better than Comcast and who doesn't love the NFL Network?

On the other hand, people in Nashville with Dish Network, woke up this morning with no ABC Network coverage. It seems Dish and the local ABC affiliate couldn't reach an agreement on a contract. That's the third time I've seen the interruption of a broadcast network affiliate in Nashville in the last five years with Dish network. Now that would piss me off.

I'll keep my DirecTv thanks.

The same exact thing happened with Direct TV a few years go in Mississippi (Jackson Market), and with Comcast in Columbus, and CableOne in Grenada.

The problem is with the affiliate, not the provider.

As I said, I have BOTH. I have also moved 14 times in the last 15 years, and had just about every cable provider there is. Dish is better than any of them...it is also less prone to weather interference than Direct...don't know why, it just is.

...but if you are happy with Direct, that is fine for you. I can tell you that if you ever need customer service - good luck talking to Delhi. At least Tech support speaks English, but the hold time is long.

We had Charter Cable beforehand, so Direct TV rocks by comparison. Only when I can't get a CSS live game do I get wistful for Charter, but then I think about the idiots that do customer service for Charter.

I did...after transferring 4 times I finally got one who spoke enough English to help. Trying to activate a system I already owned was a pain, and in the end they refused to give me a normal programming package. According to them, the normal programming packages are only available on contract. I pay $20 more for the same thing because I have no contract.

Just an fyi, I used to manage the highest volume Direct TV dealership in the nation. It was a dark day for sales when corporate made the decision to switch to Dish, but they were fighting the high number of charge-backs from early disconnects. If a customer deactivated their system prior to 6 months, Direct would chargeback the commission for the sale.

Dish has more stringent credit requirements and fewer charge backs as a result.

IT was a good thing when they went to free systems on lease instead of purchase and rebate. Direct TV rebates were the biggest sham ever. I had so many customer complaints that we started doing them in-store for people, and customer service still claimed they did not receive all the required paperwork...which was false. We photocopied all the contents that went into the envelope before we stuffed it and mailed it. The whole reason we were doing it was to make sure it was done correctly, and half of the customers still got rejection letters. I even had an employee get a rebate rejection. There were lawsuits over their failure to pay rebates.

We sold a lot less Dish network due to the credit issue, but there were zero complaints. We had problems with at least 3 in 10 Direct customers, and with the volume we did, that was way too many.

Awards are like bowl games. There is one for almost everybody.

Like I said. I have a different perspective than fans of system (x). I have both systems, and my household is unanimous. We all like Dish better.
