| FTBL Hot topic from the Big 12 media days. "Horns down," a penalty, but "Horns Up" isn't? Sometimes it's a penalty, sometimes it's not?

If you haven't seen this being bantered about among the Big 12 faithful...

In my view, if a Texas player is using his "horns up" sign in celebration it should fall under the same penalty matrix, right? It doesn't make sense to me for one team to be allowed to do something and the other can't in response? Where's the line?

And then, if this "ruling" spreads throughout collegiate football, is the Gator Chomp a taunt? The Landshark sign? The Tomahawk chop?

Some gestures feel more in your face than others. The gator chomp falls in that category It's such an extreme gesture to begin with, and often seems directed at the opposing team. I kinda thought after we beat those guys in 2009 that Julio and Mark would get a penalty for mocking the gators on the sidelines with the chomp. Certainly been more than a few who got flagged for it.

This from a conference that doesn't seem to care if it has 12 teams?

I think the Longhorn has the right to do the "Horn Up" , But I think also the other teams has the right to do the "Horn Down" The other is for their teams war cry! Now if I had a say it would be that Tomahawk Chop. Being that Braves has done it, F$U and Chiefs, that the one I turn down the sound!

I've seen them throw a flag on a player that did the gator chomp towards an opposing player. IMO, the important point is the context of when a player does a sign. Are they taunting an opposing player by making the gesture at the opponent? Did they do it on the sidelines and not on the field of play?
