I was thinking that last year or year before last he was held out of workouts for a while because of a heart condition of sorts where he was passing out upon exertion.   I can't remember exactly but it seems like he had some type of problem like that.  I hope that have it figured out and that he is able to recover, and not for selfish reasons either.
