Hot rumor of the day, Georgia Tech’s AD was ready to offer the HC job to Will Muschamp after conducting five interviews, but the board and boosters rejected him because he is an UGA grad. Now it appears they will re-interview Paul Johnson, Chris Hatcher, and Rick Neuheisel later today.

On a humorous note, Navy fans plan on printing t-shirts that read “Keep your hands off our Johnson” to wear to their bowl game.

Maybe I'm thick-headed, but I don't see how Muschamp being an UGA grad would disqualify him from coaching at Tech. Do they think he will undermine the program?

I think Johnson is a great fit for GT and would do very well there. I'm so surprised that he hasn't been snatched up by someone already (Nebraska). I really like Johnson and would like to see him as a yellow jacket, and succeed. Heck of a ball coach IMO.

Would we reject a coach because he graduated from AU or TN? Don't forget one of our assistants is a former AU player. I for one wouldn't mind it at all. I really got tired of listening to Pat Dye talk about how the Bear taught him everything he knew. Wouldn't if be funny for us to have a coach that Pat Dye taught everything he knew?

Three coaches are interviewed and not wanted by their potential boss (the AD) in favor of a guy with no HC experience. That is reason enough for the three to not return for a second-place interview.

As for the Navy rumor, I suspect that fans of service academy teams have a different perspective than most and would not go out of their way to make a low class statement in public while attending a young man's last football game before he goes off to war. These are fans that never lose track of the fact that football is a game.

Steele is a UT grad as well. Played there under Johnny Majors.

FWIW, I hope he didn't learn *everything* Pay Dye did.

Gee, will this get the same play in the media that it did when the BOT turned away Jimbo?
