Hi!

I was looking around google maps and ran across hundreds of what appear to be oil wells/nat gas wells north/northwest of Tuscaloosa.

I was wondering of any of you natives can tell me what they are.

Heat, it is more than likely gas wells. I know that from T-town all the way to Bham there are tons of those. I hunted the Cahaba Management area for a few years (42000 acres) and there were tons of gas wells all over that property. The Cahaba WMA runs "roughly" from behind the Hoover Met south to Montevallo and west all the way to the edge of Centerville. That is not exact, but that is roughly the area that it covers. I have parked in the gas well landing area in several spots out there and walked into my hunting spot. I would imagine the same out in the area of Tusc. county you are talking about.

Methane gas wells. They are everywhere.

This.

Also mentioned earlier about the Cahaba Wildlife area is where I live in Maylene. I grew up riding and partying out there. It is a methane gas drilling operation called Coalmont. The smell sucks but its cool to throw small rocks down the vent chamber pipes coming out of the ground. Makes crazy sounds as it travels down. These methane fields are everywhere.
