🏈 Game Week: Alabama vs. UL Monroe (press conferences, news updates, & discussion) ***Update- DL Jeremiah Beamon injured, out for season***

Yeah listening to the press conferences was more of the same. "Everything looked good in practice last week we just didn't take it to the field". Pattern from last year... Duh but what is causing it?

My take coaches are not pushing and challenging players beyond what they think they can do. They think they are but they are not. Muscle memory kicks in during a game and the only way to move that ceiling is to push it past where it is now and that has to happen in practice. The hardest thing a player should experience is during practice not gameday. These coaches do not know what that looks like so how are they going to know how to coach it?

Guys, after the FSU game, I have to confess I was really worried that our problems were structural and systemic. But after listening to DeBoer respond to the media, I'm soooo relieved to find out that our problems are actually simple to fix! In fact, the team only needs to do a few simple things:
  1. "Cut it loose."
  2. "Just go play."
  3. "Black out outside noise."
  4. "Enjoy and love the game."
  5. "Play the game the way it's supposed to be played."
  6. "Don't overthink it."
  7. "Just go out there and ball out."
  8. "Go have fun."
  9. "Do what you love to do."
  10. "Just go out and do you."
  11. "Have fun."
  12. "Get it done."
Isn't this great news, everyone?!

Unlike in the past when Coach Saban would've kicked their asses until they got it through their heads.

He sounds too much like Mike Shula...trying to be friends with them instead of being their coach and leader.

I think based on how he handled things, Saban would have gone pretty easy on them through the press after a loss like that (most likely). But, Bama doesn’t lose that game under Saban so it’s a moot point.

I also think a lot of those snippets from the PC were from when DeBoer was talking about Simpson. In those cases, I don’t see the issue. He and Grubb both alluded to the fact that Ty played tentative at times and just needed to trust himself and let it rip.

Brandon, I'm trying not to.... but with the press conference today, my confidence is dwindling even more on deboer. Womack didn't help with that either. I usually don't take much away for these press conferences, but to me.... it's a different circumstance considering where we are right now. I need a drink.
