My wife and I are both retired now, and highly recommend it, and do a lot of hiking in the nearby Bankhead Forest. My 2nd great grandfather, James Henry Wilson Hood, owned 160 acres there until 1920 when the US Forest Service bought it from him while developing the national forest. We were hiking / exploring the drainage that crossed his property last week and found an historic treasure, to me at least.

On an old beech tree my wife found his and a cousin’s initials and last names carved. His cousin dated it February 13, 1897 Under
his name just around the side of the tree from my gg granddad.
