I understand what you are saying, but what gets me is that colleges in other divisions (II and III) with smaller fan bases and lesser resources than the FBS (old Division 1) schools have been participating in playoff systems for years.

Aren't these smaller schools scattered all over the country, some in remote and inconvenient locations in terms of cities and population? Aren't these smaller schools on similar academic systems as the Division 1 schools?  They (Divisions II and III schools) seem to handle travel logistics, exam loads, and season schedules okay despite their respective playoff systems.

A lot of the excuses that the BCS Committee and Division 1 school presidents use to keep from going to a playoff system are baloney and I cannot believe folks keep eating it.

*Note - Out of habit I continue to call the big schools and conferences "Division 1," though I know the name of the division has changed.
