A couple of updates on some coach movements. Texted with a couple of people today in the industry, still waiting to hear back from another but will post what I have. From what I've seen on social media (above included), some of this (at least) seems to already be out there and well known. But as stated previously, Kiffin is playing the role of a wild card, a role he relishes. All attention is on him, which is what he craves. He's the king piece on the chess board and his movement (or even non-movement) will likely impact several other schools to a large degree.
Let's start with Ole Miss. While I was a bit skeptical from the start that Lane would ultimately leave Oxford, those in agent/coaching circles are convinced that he wants either the UF or LSU job, despite his security and nice setup with the Rebels. What's more important though is Ole Miss officials believe he wants one of them as well. He almost bolted from Oxford once for auburn, but the Rebs got him back, promised him the moon, and delivered. They've treated him well, better than he's deserved. Now he is leading Ole Miss to their best season in a generation, and his eyes are elsewhere. It's not sitting well with the Ole Miss brass. The last thing they can afford is Lane to be distracted, causing Ole Miss to get bounced from the payoffs, and then have their job open at the end of the cycle when their would be top targets are already hired elsewhere or possibly locked down with extensions. That puts Ole Miss in a, "show me your cards" situation with Lane. Either leave soon so an interim (Joe Judge?) can take over or agree to a deal to stay. But it likely can't drag on too much longer.
LSU and Florida... both have Lane at the top until/unless they are told a firm no from him and Sexton. Re: LSU, beyond Kiffin, there is apparently no alignment whatsoever behind another candidate, but the belief is they'd pivot to Marcus Freeman and at least try to get him.
auburn... no secret that they want Jon Sumrall. He's the one choice that would unify the AD, the boosters, and most of the fans. Cohen is trying to lock him down, but hasn't been able to yet. The belief is that as of now, in the end, auburn will probably get him, but that Sumrall (and his agent) is waiting for the Ole Miss job to open. If/when that happens, he will also be their #1 target more than likely and have more leverage to work with.... something auburn wants to avoid. And may need to avoid to ultimately get him.
Missouri... the belief is Drinkwitz will leave Missouri for the right spot and right offer, he's not acting like guy fishing for a raise, he's acting like a guy who wants to leap if he finds something he likes better. Penn State, Florida, or LSU. Cohen really likes him too and if they don't land Sumrall, I'd imagine auburn will go all in on him. Would he take it? I don't know.
Arkansas... Looks like they are going to end up just like last time when they had 6-8 coaches turn them down before Pittman said eventually gave him a "yes". For a bit, that one looked like a good hire, then things began to crumble. Unfortunate for them to have to hire this cycle and be behind so many other heavy hitters. But, taking a chance on a younger guy might be the smart play, Would have a school friendly contract and maybe get lucky on the hire. Alex Golesh and Eric Morris are two names to watch for. But a few coaching retreads (or retards in Ed Orgeron's case) are trying to get their foot in the door too.
