| FTBL šŸˆ FALL CAMP 2019 šŸˆ Tide preps for season opener

I've got a few that comes to mind spread around a bit.

Shane Lee is one. This certainly is a situation where I'm knocking McMillon. Some of you will recall I was pretty happy with how he looked coming out of spring camp. There's a few things I like at the position...ability to stop the run dead in its tracks and pass coverage. He's done well with both. Here's one of those situations where you've some some highlights/flashes where you think "he's going to be a player." A question I believe has merit is "can McMillon hold on to his starting job."

This isn't a specific individual, but a group of eight. Back in the spring it was my impression Evan Neal would be hard ti keep off the field. That hasn't changed. And here comes Dickerson in the picture (a guy that's going to get a solid look at well.) I've got confidence in Womack as I'm sure all of you do. Saban sure seemed happy with the job Owens has done at center a slot Ekiyor is considered to be a challenger for as well. Wills and Leatherwood comes with a question; what needs to be said? It's been suggested Lashley might get a look as a blocking tight end. And, if I change eight to nine, we're looking at Brown being ready by game five. A good number of versatile guys here.

Is Brian Robinson really a sub 4.5 guy?

Metchie. I expect to hear a lot of big reports on him this fall asking "where are his snaps?" Good question.

So, one day? That presser? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Take what you can get at Bama. There will be plenty of info on schemes we're running and communication issues we are hopefully fixing between now and kickoff. This is a very talented group of players on both sides of the ball, I'd hate to waste another loss, I mean failing.

The University of Alabama football team’s annual Fan Day will be held Aug. 3 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The Crimson Tide will hold a two-hour open practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium starting at 2:30 p.m. Players and coaches will be available for autographs following practice on the field for 45 minutes beginning at around 4:45 p.m.

I’m looking for our OL and DL to take shape. Like @TerryP said with the OL, which 8-9 guys will it be? DL, we know what we have in the first group, but who pushes for some valuable reps?

I’ll be going down in a couple of weeks for the scrimmage. I’m looking forward to see who is going to be an Alpha dog! @OldPlayer , you going to try and make trip over?

Last year we watched Davis, Buggs, and Williams get about 75% of the snaps, Ray and Mathis about 25%, with Dwight getting about 10%.

With the way things were when they left spring there's a good chance Dale starts. It could be Mathis. What I find noteworthy is the versatility of Mathis. He could give Davis some rest; either end.

My eye is going to be on Barmore this fall.

Do you project Barmore to be above Stephon Wynn? I know Barmore had 1st round upside as a recruit.

As freshmen, Alfano has a chance to play. Any others from the frosh DL class?

Unknown at this point. I'd like to but I've got weddings on top of weddings to go to.

The story line for me is who is willing to spill their guts and fight like hell for playing time. Who is going to rise up unexpectedly and lead? There are going to be position battles for playing time on both sides of the ball, front to back. Battles along the OL, RB, QB and receivers on offense. There will be battles along the DL at NG, DE, in and out LB and among the DB's. Most starting positions are for the most part are already settled. I think I am most interested in who the seconds and thirds will be. For me, more important than anything else, is for all our players have a safe and injury free camp.

Coming out of spring I was left with the impression that Wynn was developing into a role like a younger Mathis; but vice-versa. Mathis is an inside guy who can slide outside while Wynn can slide inside. I put Barmore over him, but alongside Alfano.

Please remember I'm looking at this from a snaps/playing time perspective. If we assume Dale and Mathis end up being that interchangeable and instead of seeing the field 25% of the time they are out there 35%, we're now rotating four for three. Add one more in a lesser role (and we'll say Barmore here) Alfano isn't going to see many snaps. (Based on rotations in Saban's tenure.) We see shared snaps change with linebackers and defensive backs year to year. There's rarely that much of a change on the line.

I believe the largest obstacle that Nick and staff (team leaders) have to overcome at Alabama (since 2009) is entitlement. The staff replacements look to me to be a big improvement. Now the question is does Bama have the talent on the DL and DB's to greatly improve from the 2019 defense. The offense should be good enough to score on anybody but the defense has to hold the better teams to less than we score. The defense is my biggest question mark.

Ten Bears tells me we're a 10-2 team for 2019. Lone Waite says that sounds like a trail of tears season to him.

My eyes, all joking aside, will be on Ben Davis and Juarez Parks. One guy came in with all the acclaim, but never showed up. The other took one for the team and waited to enroll because he wanted Alabama to be his school.

With Anoma gone, will either of these guys step into this role to provide actual solid backup? We need them, and I wonder if they see the opportunity in front of them. Ben Davis' last opportunity, Parks has an opportunity to do what he gave up a season for. Intriguing to me.

@footballer, OL- I think 4 of 5 spots are locked. LG position are something to watch in fall camp.
RB- Trey Sander are someone to watch, He could beat out Brian Robinson for Reps. We have very good depth here. If there is any competition, It would be for the backup role behind Najiee.
QB- There is no competition. Mac Jones has looked good and is expected to get the back up position.
DL- I don't think there will be battle... We just need to find the right rotation system... We need platoon system.
NG- I don't think there is any competition at NG. Mathis is set there... but he can play the DE if needed.
LBs- I dont' think we have any worries.. we just need to figure out who will start beside Moses and who will be the back up behind them. It's crucial to get the key players some reps this year.
DBs= CBs are locked with Surtain, Diggs. We may see Jobes at CB with Digg moving to safety.

I think we all need to move on with Ben Davis.. it is very unlikely he will see significant reps at LBs... There are way better players ahead of him right now. He should've transferred last year when he had a chance.

I'm looking forward to hearing if any "special" talent stands out this fall at a handful of positions. I've always said you need special to win a championship... Solid doesn't always cut it at certain positions.

Terry mentioned it - Shane Lee at LB. McMillon could be a solid option, but can someone be special. Was hoping Kaho could be in this mix but after all the drama it seems unlikely.

Pass rushing.... After watching Clemson carve us up, is there any doubt how important this is? Not to mentioned how their pressure impacted our offense. Lewis/Jennings/Allen.... 2 of 3 need to be STUDS. Not just solid. Pass rushing makes the entire secondary better... We need it.

Backup QB might get interesting. I've felt all along Mac was a solid backup, especially with his experience under Saban. But Tua's little bro showed us some things last Spring that made me think he could be a gamer. I suspect Mac starts as the backup but by game time and certainly later in the season it may evolve.

Kicking... Please lord, it would be nice to get some positive kicking reports this camp. Just for once. I include punting in that also

Can't wait for camp.... Great thread. RTR

Question: You think Saban will replace Mac with Tauila later in season.... I don't think we've seen a case where Saban made a change at back up QBs late in the season... I can see Tauila and Paul playing in 4 games and get redshirted.
