Problem isn't going in debt for something like this.  Problem is that some folks see this as a perfect opportunity to start giving everything "free" as we can obviously afford to do so.  UBI, free healthcare, why should anyone have to work anyway?  Those are prevailing thoughts on one side of the aisle and this ability to just come up with money makes them bolder about seeking it.  This should be an opportunity to talk about starting to pay off debt and put some money in reserve so we can more easily help people when something like this inevitably happens again.  Becoming a Weimar Republic at least financially very quickly.  People forget that Germany collapsed financially not just because of the reparations but because they printed money hand over fist to pay those and everything else.
