Fellas, let me have your thoughts on the Clemson game.

~How good will Clemson be game 1? (If I recall correctly they start seasons fast, just as we have.)

~Does it being game 1 help them more, or us more? (We have a lot of youth that could use more time, but at the same time the Tigers will have no film to study of how our new OC will use these players.)

~Will our boys view it more as a road game or a home game? (Considering our experience last season with the neutral site against FSU, and it being equally friendly and hostile, might we feel more "at home" with the environment than the Tigers?)

Bonus Question: (Worth 10 pts.) ~Does our type of Defense match well against their Offense, and visa versa?

~I watched the Clemson Spring Game which came on just before the Bama Spring Game on CSS. Clemson has great running backs and one really good receiver on offense (last name Dye). Their QB is poised and mature but struggles throwing the deep ball. They got a lot of pressure on the QB. I’m not sure if that indicates solid D-line play or poor O-line play (probably the latter and they stressed the fact that they lost a lot of starters on the O-line). They are a very mature team so I expect them to be more ready to play on day one than most teams.

~THEM, I have to think it helps the more experienced team.

~Road game, I would think.

~Clemson’s offense and defense looked very similar to what Bama likes to run. They like to run the ball and are good at it (which doesn’t bode well for us). I think our offense matches up well against their defense though. The offense marched up and down the field all day and if not for turnovers, a ton more points would have been scored. I think both teams looked explosive on offense and shaky on defense this weekend. I’m expecting a 35-31 kind of game.

They freaked the ASCII mode. :D

RTR,

LOL

i played some game i used it regular in ALT+ + here ^^

i dun remember a lot of clemsons games ive seen last season but im pretty sure the game wont be easy at all.

~ I wonder how Dabo will feel facing Alabama. It's has to be a "heart tugging" moment for him.

~ How good on which side of the ball? Quite frankly, when it comes to the trenches I see this as a Bama advantage right now. An even push when it comes to our OL vs their DL, but a + to Bama with our front DL vs the new (4) starters on their OL. I feel this is going to come down to QB pressure...Harper is a good QB, there is no doubt about it.

On that note, they like their speed getting to the ends with their running game. Which, bodes well considering I see our problems in the LB corps to be in the middle and not so much on the outside.

~ When Clemson has faced teams of "caliber" early on in the season they have won, but only by a point or two. Last season, they caught BC in the second game and scraped by...the year before aTm. I don't see if favoring one team or another that it's the first game of the season...more of a balancing act.

~ I think the crowd will put it more in the realm of a home game than away game. Take the SEC as one component (Ga fans with tickets) and then add to that there has been a "rivalry" between Clemson and Georgia for years. The only game I can put it in context with that a Bama fan might identify with is Bama playing Ga. Tech. Clemson travels, but those in the ATL area with no affiliation towards either school will likely root for Alabama.

~ I threw out my thoughts on this one throughout the post. My fear would be them having success if they get past the DL running between the tackles. What I don't fear is their running game vs the speed we'll have with our OLB, CB's and more importantly our safeties.

Now, to our offense? I hope we run, run and then run some more. If we can pound the ball (insert Mark Ingram here) we'll have a great chance at starting the season 1-0.

Bottom line? I suspect this one will come down to the fourth quarter (program.)

Who really knows at this point? They are expected to do very well this year, but that means nothing now.

I'm concerned about this game, but it's a little too early to be worried. I would hate to lose to the ACC the 2nd year in a row, but I'd hate more to repeat that debacle of a performance I witnessed down in Jacksonville. I hope the team learned a lot from that experience.

The only thing I learned was how awful the FSU fans were and how inconsistent we would be.

Well, you can't really consider the FSU game a neutral site. It was played in Florida. That's like all the neutral games we played at Legion Field. Those were at least 90% home games for us. I think the Atlanta site will be fairly neutral. The only thing that worries me is how the new recruits comin in will handle being at a huge venue for their first time being on a Bama sideline. To me, that's like going straight from playing in a band at a bar to the Grand Ole Opry or something. Just my opinion but I hope I'm wrong. I hope being somewhere like that will just pump them up. What do you think on that?

good point.

doesnt clemson have a pretty good class too, im sure if will be hard to em too.

Clemson always is tough to win. They are balanced in each of their units. QB Cullen Harper was last year one of the most outstandings player in ACC conference, although "Thunder and Lighting", AKA the duo James Davis & CJ Spiller, scares me to death. Davis declined to go to the NFL for a final year in college, and this backfield maybe is the most talented in the nation. Davis (Thunder) puts the muscle and the battle between the tackles and CJ Spiller (Lighting), the speed and the agility. However, this Tigers shy away out of running down the hill (that's an amazing tradition). I think is gonna be a tough one, but an amazing challenge for our program...

RTR,

i think Rashad Johnson & Justin Woodall are gone be tested real early in this game with how good their gonna be against the run. both looked good in that department in the spring game (yea i know, its just a spring game). we'll see just how much they've improved there. i think Rashad will be fine, Justin's the question. Javy's speed on the outside is gone be key too. hopefully that big near 400 lb. Cody will come along in the Fall and be able to start early.

offensively the run game, like always, gone be key. Upchurch or Ingram needs to be able to pound it while we hit with Grant for a change up and maybe break one or two. and that'll set up deep stuff with that speed we have WR. our size at WR with Julio Jones, Earl Alexander, & Mike McCoy could be good because i think most of their DBs are pretty small.
