Porkchop's Annual Post-Draft Summary

Alright boys and girls here we go again with that special time of year. The time of year when Chop gets to rag on all those skip-skaps, skunks, skanks, and scallywags that make up the RTB.com pay baseball league. I'm gonna tell you who did good, who tanked, and give you all the info in between. As per usual, when reading my predictions and commentary in this article, just expect the exact opposite to happen.

RTB.COM YEAR 6 DRAFT

It's hard to beleive that we're been doing this for half a decade already. Truth be known, many of us in this league have been doing this together for more than 10 years. We're in our 6th year on sportsline.com, however.

ROUND ONE

Some things never change. Five, count'em 5 starting pitchers go off the board just like that. Remember that this is a keeper league and many of the league managers already have at least one, if not 3 starters.

Best Pick--Tied. Stroker Ace (Moreno_iv) picks Roy Oswalt while the North Georgia Fat Bastards (bamafan4ever) picks Yovani Gallardo.

Here's the thing. It's really hard to determine who actually gets the best pick here, because everyone gets a stud. I'm going to give the nod to these two a$$ clowns primarily because in Roy Oswalt you get a guy who is the model of consistancy over a career. It's a safe pick. Reliable. Lord knows, Moreno needs some reliable picks. Gallardo is that guy. He's the guy with stratospheric potential, and is primed for a breakout. At worst, if he stays healthy he's going to be good for 17 wins and 200 strikeouts. At worst.

Worst Pick--Hard to say, but I'm going to have to crack on myself here. On paper, Colby Lewis is not the greatest pick. In 2010 Lewis was 12-13 with 190+ k's and an ERA under 4.00. Serviceble. But when the studs go off the board you have to do something. I'm banking on potential here, and a high-powered Texas offense.

Most Unusual Pick--Bo confirms that the apocolyps is upon us. The biggest Braves homer in the history of homers (and there aint no shortage of them around here) actually picked a player from another team (Mark Texiera-Yankees).

Par For The Course Pick--Bear Facts picks a pitcher in round one. A releiver. For those that don't know, Factor will forever remain infamous for his drafting a pitcher in 10 straight rounds one year.

ROUND TWO

BEST PICK--That would be me, with the "I am not a crook" pick of Ryan Zimmerman. Due to some unforseen technical difficulties, Zimmerman was picked about 3 times this round. Zimmerman was statistically the best player at a thin position last year.

Worst Pick--Tied.Dark Side Jedi (RollTideRandy) picks Justin Morneau while big Red Machine (Danny G.) picks Wandy Rodriguez. Don't get me wrong here, Morneau has been a fantasy stalwart for a long time. That was pre-concussion, though. Not sure I would straddle that fence personally, in round two. As for Wandy Rodriguez, let me just say......oh my. Wow, and not in a good way.

Most Unusual Pick--Big Red Machine (Danny G.) picks Wandy Rodriguez. if Danny was trying to shock the world, he succeeded. Clay Buchholz, Tim Hudson, and Jonathon Sanchez all went after Rodriguez. I dare say that any manager not on shrooms would have preferred to have any of those three guys instead.

On a side note, Bear Facts picked up a pitcher in round two.

ROUND THREE

BEST PICK--Tied. Barnyard Bangers (porkchop) picks Matt Kemp, while the Blues City Boobies (Bama1966) picks the Youk. Going into the draft I would not have picked Kemp. I may still regret doing so, but....he's on fire to start the season. He ditched Rhianna. He no longer has Joe Torre jerking him around. Smells like victory to me. Kevin Youkalis looks like a slightly above agerage pick on paper, but if he stays healthy, he puts up monster numbers this year in the middle of that Beantown lineup.

WORST PICK--Stroker Ace (Moreno_iv) picks Carlos Santana from Cleveland. Moreno continues to be a walking commercial for why crack is not good for you. Look, I get it. Santana is going to be very good. He's going to beast. Maybe Moreno felt like he had to reach here. Personally, I think he could have gotten this cat in round 9. Not a bad pick in terms of the player, but a wasted pick in terms of value. Youkalis, Tim Hudson, Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp, and Dan Uggla all left the board after Santana.

HITTERS ARE FOR SUCKERS, PICK--Rag Arms (Bear Facts) picks Tim Hudson, starting pitcher. The league was shocked and awed by this move. No one saw it coming.

ROUND FOUR

BEST PICK--Rocket City Space Monkeys (BamaMan37) picks John Danks. Danks is not elite, but at this point in the draft, he's a great value. In 2010 Danks went 15-11 and is expected to be as good, if not better. He plays for a team with a big offense as well.

WORST PICK--Dark Side Jedi (RollTideRandy) picked Nick Markakis, outfielder. Check this out. 23, 20, 18, 12. Markakis' homer totals for the past 4 seasons. 18, 10, 6, and 7. His stolen base numbers. There's a trend in there somewhere, and I'm gonna find it.

IF I CAN'T HAVE HIM, NO ONE CAN PICK--Druid City Sand Gnats (porter) picks Shin-Soo Choo, outfielder. You know how in some countries they have arranged marraiges? In this case, I think ol Porter has made a side trip or two involving Choo's family and some reasonably-priced dog. Porter's the only manager Choo has ever known....and ever will.

I'd like to point out that Bear Facts did not. I repeat DID NOT pick up a pitcher in this round. That is all.

ROUND FIVE

KISS YOUR A$$, AND YOU SEASON GOODBY PICK--North Georgia Fat Bastards (bamafan4ever) picked Jonathon Broxton, RP. Broxton continues where he left off last season. In a ditch. In three games Broxton has 1 strkeout, and has given up 3 hits (2 of them homers). Broxton will eventually bury bamafan4ever's team. Just ask Bear Facts.

ROUND SIX

BEST PICK--Druid City Sand Gnats (porter) picks Justin Upton, OF. A day without Upton is like a day without sunshine. Looking to put his subpar 2010 campaign behind him, Upton is already batting .300 with a double, a homer, and 3 ribbies this week. I like Upton here.

WORST PICK--Stroker Ace (Moreno_iv) picks Marco Scutaro, SS. "Hi, mediocrity, this is Moreno calling". Let me just put it this way.

Sportsline.com says...
Scutaro isn't exactly the world's best hitting shortstop, but he's serviceable and generally consistent for Fantasy owners...

Yeah, generally consistant with a mediocre batting average, single-digit home runs, and single-digit stolen bases every year. Sounds like round 18 material there.

FATHER TIME PICK--Tied. Crimson Reds (Stanley G) picks Fransisco Cordero, RP. Rag Arms (Bear Facts) picks Derek Jeter, SS. These guys' combined age is 71 years old. And in Cordero's case, I think there are some Obama-like birth certificate shinanigans going on. He might be 71 himself.

ROUND SEVEN

BEST PICK--Barnyard Bangers (porkchop) picks Pablo Sandoval. Sandoval had a very subpar 2010 but is back and in shape. He's having a nice opening week. I think to pick up a guy that is expected to have a big bounce back, at a weak position, in this round is a good pick. Having said that, maybe the joke is on me. Obviously he lasted this long for a reason. We'll see.

ONE FOR THREE PICK--Stroker Ace (Moreno_iv) Ricky Nolasco, SP. Mark it down. Nolasco will drives his owner crazy having one great start, always followed by atleast 3 bad ones. Swami says waiver fodder by week 6.

ROUND EIGHT

NOTABLE PICKS--Druid City Sand Gnats (porter) picks Andrew Bailey, RP. Stroker Ace (Moreno_iv) picks Kelly Johnson, 2b.

Bailey is 51 for 58 in save chances the past two seasons. He's lethal when healthy and appears almost there.

Kelly Johnson finally put it all together last year. He provides great power at a thin position. Even if last year was the apex, I'd bank on him going 15-20 dingers and hitting for a decent average again this season.

ROUND NINE

NOTABLE PICKS--McKenzie Mudbugs (Bo) picks Jeremy Hellickson, SP. Hellickson is the next big thing in terms of young starters. He should have a very nice season for Tampa this year.

OTHER NOTABLE PICKS ROUNDS 10-18

ROUND TEN--Rocket City Space Monkeys (BamaMan37) Madison Bumgarner, SP. Is the young World Series hero in for a sophomore slump?

ROUND TEN--Rag Arms (Bear Facts) Angel Pagan, OF. Pagan is "Mr. Do It All". Nice, solid, pick for depth at this point in the draft.

ROUND ELEVEN--McKenzie Mudbugs (Bo) Corey Hart, RF. Hart went 31, 102 last season. Getting him in round eleven is a bargain even if he goes more 25, 80.

ROUND ELEVEN--North Georgia Fat Bastards (bamafan4ever) Kyle Drabek, SP. This snot-nosed punk goes out and pitches a one-hitter in his first start of the season.

ROUND THIRTEEN--Blues City Boobies (Bama1966) Chris Perez, RP. The kid has nasty stuff and even though he pitches for Cleveland, this is a straight-up bargain here.

ROUND SIXTEEN--Blues City Boobies (Bama1966) Eric Bedard, SP. If...IF Bedard is healthy, this is the steal of the draft. But IF Bedard is healthy is kinda like asking IF Rich Harden is an arm injury waiting to happen.

ROUND EIGHTEEN--No Pick--skipped--Druid City Sand Gnats (porter). The ultimate, "I don't need any more players to handle you bit**es" pick.

Part two of the post-draft commentary coming up guys. We'll go "by the numbers". I'll probably do the research tonight and post it tomorrow.

Good stuff as usual, Po'chop. Except for the Broxton evaluation, which is spot on, it looks like you may have attended the Beano Cook's School of Predictions.

It will be fun to revisit this post at the end of the season. ;)
