Lincoln Financial getting out of TV, radio
Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 3:38 pm

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Lincoln Financial Group is getting out of the television and radio business.

The Philadelphia-based financial services company said Monday it is selling all three of its TV stations, as well as its sports syndication business, to Raycom Media Inc. for $583 million in cash.

Separately, Lincoln said it has reached an agreement to sell its three radio stations in Charlotte to Greater Media Inc. for $100 million in cash, and will "explore options" to divest its other radio holdings.

Lincoln said it will use the proceeds to reduce debt and repurchase stock. The transactions, subject to regulatory approval, are expected to close by the second quarter of 2008.

Lincoln is primarily known as a financial services company, but one of its subsidiaries, Lincoln Financial Media, owns and operates TV stations in Charlotte, Richmond, Va., and Charleston, S.C.; 18 radio stations; and the Lincoln Financial Sports production and syndication business.

With 42 TV stations in 18 states, Montgomery, Ala.-based Raycom is one of the nation's largest broadcasters. Braintree, Mass.-based Greater Media owns 20 radio stations in Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia and New Jersey.

side note...

Im new here (obviously)

Yes Im an Auburn fan. (ducks)

Hope to make some new friends!

Unless the purchasing company from Montgomery has real strong ties to Aubrun, AKA.. Bobby Lowder money, they would be foolish not to show the same type of games that Lincoln Financial has previously been showing. Basically, what I mean is that Aubrun does not have the regional following that other SEC schools have. If you were implying that the football coverage was going to favor Aubrun, the owner must bring the cash and be ready for terrible ratings.

yea I dont know what goes on behind the scenes so...

the post was simply meant to pass along news

call me clueless if that story means anything good for Auburn...

all I gathered from it was that they are getting out of the tv/radio biz

yeah, sorry bud. I don't know what I was reading into your post. After re-reading it, I feel kinda' dumb. For some reason I thought you were insinuating that the buyer was a company from Montgomery with Aubrun ties. I guess I just read a little too much into the post. My bad, I guess I'm just gearing up for the Nerdy-ass Aubrun folks taking their little jabs on this site before the big showdown in 10 days.
