🏈 Bigfoot's thoughts on Auburn claiming National Championships

While Bigfoot is on campus, he needs to stomp into the football facility and demand the 1941 national title be officially renounced by the university, and anyone who refuses should be thrown from the roof.

100% agree....
all others have good resumes.
But 1 gives scuffs to others...

But...who really cares... AU can claim those and still ...dust in wind to Bamas

The Holgate is recognized by the NCAA as a major selector. I'm on the 7th floor but I did see stairs to the roof.

Let whomever claim whatever...last I checked Bama has won a few.

For considering it a major selector, they sure don't bother to make much mention of it these days on their national championship rundowns... If I recall, the Houlgate poll was almost more like a computer poll, ahead of its time in its methodology. And it very well may have selected the "best" overall team that season in Bama. But even taking into account the prehistoric ways champions were crowned back then, the fact is the trophy (ironically named after one of their former coaches) resides in Minnesota.

1941 is by far Bama's least legitimate NC claim, to the point like others said, it tarnishes the rest just by association. Greg Byrne coming out and announcing that it will no longer be recognized, days after auburn stakes claim to similar make believe titles, would be the nut kicking of all nut kickings to them (while also bolstering the legitimization of our remaining ones). And while I think UA deserved one in 1966, I would pass on claiming it at this point. Sucks for that team, but that's how I see it.

Also, I have no clue as to the validity of this, there is at least some question about whether or not Houlgate did list Bama #1 in their final rankings that season... evidence is difficult to find, other than this newspaper clipping....

And yes. Whoever can claim whatever, it isn't a huge deal. But if I had my choice, I'd take this easy opportunity here, that has been presented by auburn, to "fix" the 1941 issue while also making them look like the absolute clowns that they are. It would be a PR beating worse than what Bama did to them on the field in 2012.

Lastly, this 80 year old Russian lady supposedly survived 6 floors... but 7 plus at least one more to the roof on your end? To quote Gary Danielson... "I don't know!?!?"

She only reported a ringing sensation in her ears.

I still think Bama could have a good argument in '77. Outdone by ND and the voters.

ROLL TIDE!
True, but the pre-bowl UPI handed us '73. It's all a marvelous mishmash, which is what makes (made) college football so wonderful.

I'm nostalgic to a fault, love old stuff and new stuff/experiences that are reminiscent of days gone by. At my folks' place, I spent the last two days filling a 20 yard roll-off with stuff from outbuildings that deserved a place in a landfill - stuff that my Dad "might need someday", or that had been demoted from home decor. A couple of truckloads went to the local thrift store, but much more went into the dumpster.

I haven't scratched the surface of things with meaning or value. We won't seriously work through that until Mom's gone, hopefully for quite some time. The barn, however, is another matter. That will be a January project, and another dumpster.
