| FTBL Auburn Cheap Shot on LSU's Glenn Dorsey

I guess Barns thoughts were if you can't stop him hurt him? Do they coach that?

Well.....whatever it was...it shifted momentum. I would guess LSU took that personally.

Glad the Barn lost. Glad Dorsey isn't looking for a new career this morning.

Pitiful.

Yea, after watching it over and over. I can't say it was coached, but thats got to be the dirtest play I've seen in years.... I'm glad he's ok after seeing what happned to Tyrone Prothro I woundn't ever wish a player to have a carrer cut short.

Pro's play wasn't a chop block. This play was meant to hurt someone. The player should be removed for a week for that chop block.

I saw the LSU Football 101 video on youtube and it was pretty bad vs south carolina, but that was the saddest thing i've ever seen. Silly me, who made a comment to my wife about it and left the barn door open, she defended it, said he got off a block and fell down. "Yes it was illegal, but unintentional."

AND THEY CALL US DELUSIONAL?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Saw the "LSU Karate Chop"?

I do agree that this was blatantly dirty though. As a former OL, you are coached NOT to do this. That type of play is meant to hurt someone.

Thug disguised in a football uniform.

The Aubies I know are crying like a 4 yr old over the call they might not have gotten over a guy maybe lined up 4 inches from the line. On the opposite side of the field.

However, they act like the cheap shot to Dorsey never happened.

It was clearly an illegal block, but honestly it's not even among the worst I've seen. It was a quick pass, and in real time Dorsey was just engaging the other lineman when he was cut. Had the low block occurred first it would have been entirely legal. Blocking below the waist is legal as long he hasn't been engaged first high by a second player (high/low), and you're in the free blocking zone.

On quick passes, it's a good practice to cut a lineman to occupy their hands to keep them from knocking down a pass. Any other time, if the defensive lineman crosses your face going to the ball, cut them. D-linemen don't like it, but it's entirely legal. If you cut a guy, he'll think twice about stunts, and he'll be more interested in keeping his hands on you to control you - that means less penetration and a slower path to the ball.

The media love fest with Dorsey is getting old. The sideline reporter's stretch-by-stretch reporting on his hamstring was high drama.

A cut is a legal block without a doubt, and I did a fair share of cutting, but I don't even know if I would call that a cut block. I would call that a break-the-guy's-ankle-and-thus-cost-him-his-career block. And, being that GD is a sure first rounder, maybe a top 5 pick, and IMO it results in it being a very disgusting act.

Regardless of who he plays for, you'd hate to see a talented kid's career ruined because of a cheap illegal block like that. Dorsey isn't responsible for the way the media puts him on a pedistal. He's an outstanding player and has a fantastic future ahead of him in the NFL.

Not only is Dorsey an outstanding player, he is a good person off the field. I wish the SEC would step in and review that play. The Auburn player needs to receive some sort of punishment for that blatant act.

What I enjoyed was how the act backfired on AU; LSU defensive line definitely took exception to the play and turned it up a notch after that.

When an OL started cutting me, I would make use of the arm pads I wore...they wrapped around the front of my knuckles. As a DL you are taught to shoot your hands up to the OL shoulder pads and get separation, then run to the play, either scraping or swimming. I would "miss" the shoulder pads and do my best impersonation of the mortal-kombat uppercut...Just one shot as I fired off the line - the refs never noticed that. I was 6'2" /275 with a 400# + clean. Even if I missed their chins and caught them under the shoulder pads it was effective. Over the course of one season I had 2 offensive linemen start intentionally missing their cut blocks. The others stopped cutting me. One tried to retaliate after the play and got a personal foul. Against one team I knocked the guy out of the game and told his replacement not to cut me.

My point is, I hate cut blocks. Knee problems are what caused me to put my hand on the ground and kept me out of D1. I did not appreciate anyone going near my knees.
