Auburn's men's basketball program expects to receive a notice of allegations from the NCAA and could face more penalties from the organization's committee on infractions, according to a document obtained Wednesday by Auburn Undercover.

Auburn filed a victim impact statement explaining its compliance issues in federal court last week as former assistant coach Chuck Person faced sentencing after pleading guilty to six bribery and fraud charges stemming from a nationwide investigation that also involved the families of two Auburn players. Person received time served and 200 hours of community service at a hearing Wednesday. He was facing up to 30 months in prison.

Auburn University filed a five-page statement to the court July 11, which the Associated Press obtained and an Auburn official later confirmed to be the same document it filed last week in to the federal court.

Auburn's compliance department believes head coach Bruce Pearl and other members of the Auburn basketball program were not aware of Person's scheme. The university believes Person acted alone and on his own. A portion of the victim impact statement follows:

As a result of Person’s misconduct, Auburn expects to receive a formal Notice of Allegations from the NCAA in the coming months. While Auburn believes the NCAA investigation to date has only confirmed that any staff misconduct was isolated to Person – and that his misconduct was committed in a way so as to avoid Auburn’s detection – the University will still have to navigate the enforcement process to an ultimate conclusion, a process that may drag into yet another basketball season. Despite the fact that the NCAA has already imposed what Auburn believes are sufficient penalties for those student-athletes affected by Person’s misbehavior, the possibility exists that Auburn’s athletics department and/or men’s basketball team could face further sanction and penalties from the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions.
Auburn declined further comment when contacted Wednesday by Auburn Undercover.

The NCAA tried to pin entire $91,500 on Purifoy and Wiley, per court docs

This one confuses me. They are expecting a NOA, they don't know what the NCAA has alleged because they haven't received it yet, but this tweet says the NCAA tried to pin this on Person? Where? How? When?

We know the NCAA had its representatives following the cases in court but as far as I know they have not been involved with any of the FBI's case, correct?

The entire defense for the barners is they're going to confess ignorance. Compliance, according to the NCAA, when you don't know what's going on as a head coach, you're not in compliance. So far, Pearl has been able to make, "hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil" an art form.

Let's see here.

"Hear no evil" certainly was the case when he was recording Deon Thomas.
"See no evil" certainly was the case when he was at Boston College during their point shaving scandal.
"Speak no evil" certainly was the case when he lied about the cookout.

Yep, fits.

Problem is, they just don't have the goods on him. There's simply no smoking Bar BQ grill as far as anyone can tell. If they don't make him accountable for his assistant coach in this instance what has the NCAA got? Now, Wade at LSU, a whole different set of circumstances.

Claiming they didn't know defense may not work
The cow college will come out smelling like a rose as usual.
This is why I found the NC State news with Gottfried important. By all appearances with the basketball cases the NCAA looks to be taking the stance of "he should have known."

And Josey may be right...the school may end up coming out of this fairly clean. I have my doubts Pearl will. While the show cause has expired, it'll still be prevalent on their mind(s.)

One thing you may have noticed ... the media is beginning to turn a little on how they're shaping this story. We're just a matter of weeks removed from the same writers saying "nothing to see here." Now it looks like they've been given a new set of marching orders, "prepare the fan base."
