TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball made its 2022 debut at Rhoads Stadium Friday afternoon, earning a 10-2 run rule victory over Evansville before battling to a 1-0 pitchers duel against No. 8 Virginia Tech.

A trio of Alabama (6-0) players posted multi-hit games in the win vs. Evansville (5-2), including a home run from Ally Shipman as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Against Virginia Tech (5-1), the Crimson Tide's lone run came on a second-inning RBI single from Abby Doerr, while Montana Fouts (2-0) did the rest in the circle with 7.0 shutout innings and 11 strikeouts against the Hokies.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy

"It was a day of beating two 5-0 teams coming into the weekend. Everyone who was here tonight could tell that Virginia Tech is a World Series or Super Regional type team. They were a really good team. I'm really glad they decided to come down and play at this tournament. That's just going to help us the rest of the season. Montana was terrific. Sometimes in an old-fashioned fastpitch softball game like that, one hit is all you need and Abby got it done and Montana did the rest."

OT:

I'm watching ND vs LSU and see Shelbi Sunseri at bat. I've seen her before but never really bothered to look at her family.

Guarantee: She's not related to Sal. 🙃
