Don’t get me wrong, I like Pate and listen to him occasionally. But the degree of insight in his commentary is generally not commensurate with the degree of confidence with which he comments. It’s like I feel cheated after listening to him. Anyway, I like the last point he makes in this clip. I started suspecting the same thing, particularly during the OU game. I have no inside info, but it just appeared obvious to me that DeBoer deliberately wasn’t doing everything he could do to win. And that he was “okay” with it because internal dynamics demanded it. I think some of the more informed admins here have hinted at this too. But Pate puts it in good terms, “DeBoer gave some in the front end to get more in the back end.”
