BAMA Quick Hits:

Alabama comes into Saturday’s match up with Louisiana-Monroe on its second, two game losing streak of the season. Last week, the Tide’s offense floundered against an inspired Mississippi State squad that scored their second victory over the Tide in as many years. John Parker Wilson looked uncomfortable in the pocket against the Bulldogs and for good reason. The reconfigured offensive line did not allow Wilson time in the pocket to look off his favorite receiver, DJ Hall. The Bulldogs effectively used double coverage on the normally productive wide out and managed to get plenty of pressure on the Junior QB. With the pressure applied, Wilson made some serious misjudgments. One of those mistakes occurred toward the end of the first half of the game when Wilson was under pursuit and he then lofted the ball into the endzone and the MSU defender returned the interception for a 100 yard “pick six”. For the remainder of the game, the BAMA offense could never really get into sync.

If there was a bright spot in BAMA’s 5 point loss to the Bulldogs, it was on the defensive side of the ball. The Tide brought pressure all day long and the Bulldog offense could only muster 10 points against a stingy Tide D.

Tide player Louisiana-Monroe must focus on: DJ Hall. The MSU Bulldogs have given BAMA’s remaining opponents the recipe for slowing down the Tide and that is to cover DJ Hall and to cover him well. That has been easier said than done this year but if the Warhawks can manage BAMA when they have the ball, this game could be a lot closer than most Tide fans would care for it to be.

BAMA will win if: Alabama must contain the mobile QB from ULM and keep the Warhawk explosive offense at bay. Kinsmon Lancaster has shown ability to allude pursuing defenders and is the 3rd leading rusher on the Warhawk offensive unit.

Louisiana-Monroe Quick Hits:
The Warhawks started the season slowly but has rebounded to win two of its last three games. Last week, the Warhawks managed a 28-14 win over Grambling. Calvin Dawson continues to lead the Sun Belt Conference in rushing yards. The Warhawks have a very experienced offensive line and can move the ball well both running and passing. Defensively, the Warhawks have done an adequate job containing the run but have a certain weakness in pass protection which has cost them all season long.

Warhawk player BAMA must focus on: Calvin Dawson has shown ability to run behind the aforementioned veteran offensive line. He has carried the ball into the end zone on 11 occasions this season to lead both his team and conference.

Louisiana-Monroe will win if: Quiet frankly, it would take an upset of monumental proportions for the Warhawks to escape Bryant-Denny with a victory on Saturday. It will be incumbent on the Warhawks to play ball control and establish the run against the aggressive Tide defense. Turnovers that have plagued the Warhawks all season long would also need to be kept to a minimum in order for ULM to have a chance against the Tide.
