Bama News

To be the best, you have to beat the best, and that is why the SEC has won 12 of the last 16 national titles. This year is no different, with an outstanding slate of non-conference games such as Utah at Florida, Georgia vs. Oregon, and many more.

However, one of the best games is gonna take place in Austin, Texas when the Alabama Crimson Tide travels out west to take on the Texas Longhorns. This will be the first time the two programs have met since the national title game in Pasadena, California.

Former Alabama offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian, has taken over the reins at Texas and poached a few coaches and players which makes this match-up that much more enticing.

September 10 can’t come soon enough.

Since the thread is about the Texas match-up, here's a pod I listened to a few days ago from Texas folks previewing the game.

As we inch closer and closer to the Texas Longhorns’ kickoff, we continue our summer previews with the marquee non-conference matchup, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The newly sold-out game will mark the first time the two teams have squared off since the National Championship game that seemingly set both programs on opposite trajectories. Alabama has been the class of college football for the last 12 seasons, with six national championships and four Heisman Trophy winners — including current quarterback Bryce Young.

Alabama comes to town Week 2 to serve as a reunion for Steve Sarkisian and Nick Saban, with Sark squaring off against his former boss after helping lead them to their most recent national championship. Texas also features three players that made the jump to Austin from Tuscaloosa with Keilan Robinson joining a year ago, while Jahleel Billingsly and Agiye Hall joining for the 2022 season.

So what should we expect from the juggernaut of college football, hoping to march through Austin on their way to the College Football Playoff?

And a write-up with game predictions from Texas beat writers.

Now, the staff at LonghornsCountry.com presents their game picks for the matchup against Alabama.

Texas will be up against the toughest test in the Steve Sarkisian era. They will be much improved, with playmakers at the skill positions that rival anyone else in the country. Unfortunately, the biggest weakness for the Horns, the trenches, is the biggest strength for the Tide. Alabama should win this one comfortably, even if Texas puts up a good first-half fight.

Yes, it's an early game. Yes, the Longhorns improved this offseason with prospects such as Isaiah Neyor and Quinn Ewers joining the offense. And yes, Texas should be at least an eight-win program this fall. It's Alabama and the Longhorns' offensive line struggled with Big 12 defenses. Better luck in 2023, Texas

The Texas Longhorns will enter week two against the Alabama Crimson Tide as 15 point underdogs, and it isn't hard to see why. Alabama played in a national championship last season while Texas went 5-7, including an overtime loss to Kansas. At home. That being said, this Texas team should be vastly improved and is likely to show strides of improvement. However, they aren't quite on that Alabama level yet, which will show come September.

Even in a perfect world, the Longhorns would still fall short in this one. In what is for sure to be an exciting game, Texas might be a little too jittery against a Nick Saban-coached defense that once again made it to the College Football Playoff last season. Alabama would have to severely beat itself, something that won’t happen given the hype surrounding this game and the extra gear that opposing teams tend to put on when marching into Austin. It pains me to say, but give me the Tide in a blowout.

Ultimately, the Alabama Crimson Tide will be too much for the Longhorns to handle. Our offensive line will be at a disadvantage against a strong Alabama front that will apply constant pressure on Quinn Ewers. Longhorns will put up a fight but it will not be enough.

Alabama is too explosive on the offensive end, leading to a second-half surge. Quinn Ewers will show a lot of promise in his first true test, but the defense will be exploited against an Alabama offense including Heisman Bryce Young

We have questions too, so I hope the guys don't buy into all of this too much. Our offensive line and wide receivers are question marks. There is absolutely no denying the talent, but the production is the question. I am not worried about our defense, but just hope they come out with their hair on fire and don't give the fans or the team any reason to get rowdy.

This will be a fun game and a good test for our team. Sarkesian will have a few tricks up his sleeve and I think his boys will fight hard behind a home crowd. i think we win pretty good, but definitely gonna be pushed. Can't wait to see them all whites on Fox.

Did Agiye Hall ever officially make (and stay on) the Texas roster?
