I have been saying for years that it is blatantly obvious that the political class in the US is dumber than a box of rocks,
I'm going off the top of my head here.
Back in the DuBose era (1998) the same type of legislation was being fought; "The Law vs NCAA." I remember the year, specifically, because of a someone I met watching the Vandy game that season. I remember the case was concluded just after A-day: maybe the very next week.
The "law" in question was called "REC." (Ironic, to a degree.) It was an acronym for "Restricted Earnings Coach." It may have been Oklahoma where it started; somewhere in that area of the country. The court ruled the REC was unconstitutional. It was a violation of the Sherman Act. So, the REC was "killed."
They appealed. I remember it went to the 10th circuit on appeal and the appeal lost.
It was, and is, unconstitutional, just as the appellate court ruled. It is a violation of the "Sherman Antitrust Act."
That was my original point, supported by yours? "....dumber than a box of rocks."
It's been ruled upon. There is precedence, on the books, that the idea is wrong. It's been proven.
But, what the hell...let's propose something.
