There are very few programs or fan bases that have the perspective that Alabama has.  With success literally scattered through the generations, our fan-base differs from the current A.D.D. environment in that we have seen rebirth time and time again.  Crying "Johnny-Come-Lately" is their red badge of ignorance.

Bama was National Champions during the days of my Great Grandfather.  My Grandfather points out the rebirth of the program when Bryant answered Momma's call, which lead to the glorious 1960's.  My Father was witness to the introduction of the Wishbone and rebirth of the 1970s.  I point to 1992 with Coach Stallings, which in the age of scholarship restrictions may be just as impressive.  My son is now witnessing a completely different rebirth, that's ending is not yet written.

I suspect that the complaining is based mostly out of ignorance from the masses.  The way Bama wins is not as entertaining to the casual spectator (Defense, 9 minute drives, Pound the rock), but respect out of the Coaches Poll shows that respect is warranted.

The one thread running through all the whining is that they all fear another Beast in the fight. Whether that call us the New-Kids-on-the-Block or THE Crimson Tide, the name they use speaks of them not of us.  As long as they call us Champions I personally don't care.

One of my favorite lines fro Coach Saban's book How Good Do You Want To Be is "...they became Champions because they already were Champions."
