Season Ends

As I watched the last white tail flicker into the setting sun I had time to reflect on what was to become in just minutes, last year's season. The end of my 20th Alabama Whitetail season. Year after year this hunt, the last hunt, is always filled with sadness & longing. But this year the sadness was overshadowed by satisfaction. Not satisfaction of a particularly thrilling hunt or a monstrous trophy, but satisfaction in self evaluation. This season I was patient & honest enough to teach & to be taught by my friends & even more by the magnificent creature I have spent my entire life chasing. This season I had more bucks walk under my stand than ever before. And while I only took 5 modest deer, each one was special. I enjoyed every minute of every hunt this season- kill or no kill. I felt very in tune with the woods around me & I am most proud of that. To sum up my self evaluation as a hunter & woodsman after the 2000-2001 season in one word = IMPROVED. I pray next season's last hunt will reflect the same word. 
    All of us here at Doemasters hope you & yours had a wonderful season. And if you're having a difficult time dealing with the realization that bow season is another long eight months away, we have but 2 words to pacify you: "Gobbler Cobbler!" It's about time to bust some heads!!!!
