Fall Recruiting News: prospects to watch

November 5, 2009

After landing the top recruiting class in 2008 and 2009, how will this years class finish? I’d say a top 5 is definitely in the forecast, while landing a few of the prospects below would likely put Alabama at least in the top 3. Although the 2010 class may not be as highly ranked as ‘08 and ‘09 were, it is just as important. While Alabama has upgraded the team strength and size in the last two years, this class has the much needed speed that Bama has lacked, for what seems like, this decade.

Offensive Tackle

As I stated earlier, we currently have no verbals to this class, but Saban’s staff is currently hot after James Stone, Arie Kovandjio and Damian Robinson. It has been mentioned that the Tide staff isn’t after Robinson now like they were a few months ago, but I still believe he may have a spot if others don’t work out.

Linebacker

One of the state’s top prospects this year is Theordore star, C.J. Mosely. While Mosely has been extremely quiet on the recruiting front, people close to him believe Mosely is a heavy Alabama lean, and may be making an announcement in the near future. Mosely would be a welcomed addition to the linebacking core, especially if McClain decides to jump to the NFL a year early.

Defensive Backs

While already having 4 verbals at this position, Alabama is still after a few more prospects to help replenish the 6 DBs leaving after this year. Recently, JUCO standout Mike Harris and one of South Carolina’s top prospects, John Fulton, have been on campus for their official visit. It was reported that both players had a very good time at Alabama. Harris made it known that Alabama was his leader after leaving, and people close to Fulton believe he may choose Alabama in the next few weeks. Adding two more cornerbacks to this class would go a long way towards replacing the talent we have leaving.

Athlete

Another prospect high on Alabama’s board is Keenan Allen. Allen is a 5 star prospect on rivals and a top 10 player in the country. Keenan plays both wide receiver and safety in high school, and could play either position at the next level. It was once believed that Allen would end up at safety if he decided to attend Alabama, but he has recently stated that Coach Saban wants him at the receiver position opposite of Julio Jones next fall. Alabama has been in very good shape with Allen since he was offered as a junior, and those close to him have indicated that he is ready to end the recruiting process. Keenan will be taking in his first live Alabama game Saturday night against LSU, so he may be someone to seriously keep an eye on over the weekend…..

Committed Prospects to watch

Two prospects to watch as signing day gets closer will be Auburn commitment Shon Coleman(OT) and Baylor commitment Ahmed Dixon(DB) . Coleman recently visited Alabama and states that he had a very good time. It’s uncertain at this time exactly how high up the board these two prospects are, but it’s possible that both could switch to Alabama before signing day.
